The Czech economic growth is likely to slow down this year from the previous year. According to an Erste Group Research report, Czech economy is expected to grow 3.4 percent this year, as compared with 4.5 percent growth recorded in the prior year.
The deceleration is expected to be mainly driven by higher interest rates and the appreciation of the Czech koruna. But this does not seem like a negative development, but rather a gradual return to potential GDP growth from the current slightly overheated economy.
The Czech economy is expected to be strongly underpinned by domestic, as well as foreign demand. In the first quarter of 2018, Czech economy is expected to expand 0.8 percent quarter-on-quarter and 4.3 percent year-on-year, as a reflection of the wage growth acceleration at the 2017/2018 turn, added Erste Group Research.
